CUSTOM CONSTRUCTION SITE SIGNAGE
Every construction site is unique. When it comes to construction site and hoarding signage, the same is true. We absolutely love this because every project that requires a custom signage job challenges our knowledge and creativity to provide customers with the best solution for their particular project. No cookie cutters here.
Carbon Graphics will work closely with your marketing and design team on the front end to ensure your vision is practical, cost-effective, and doable in reality. Sometimes making a slight design change of 3 inches on a 10 foot sign can save thousands of dollars. We will always give you the best advice on material options in order to work within your budget and ensure the construction signage will look great and last for the life of your project. We coordinate directly with your on-site construction team to pass site safety orientation and develop an installation plan that works within the overall construction schedule.
ABOVE & BELOW: This project is across from Stampede Park at the corner of 12 Ave & Macleod Tr S. in Calgary. Once final artwork was complete, we had 5 days to get the job done prior to one million pairs of eyeballs passing by during the 10 days of the Calgary Stampede. Our production team worked through the weekend. 140 5'x10' aluminum composite panels (alupanel) were printed, laminated with anti-graffiti laminate, and fastened to the jersey barriers on site by our team.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTION HOARDING?
Construction hoarding generally consists of the perimeter fence and covered walkways around a construction site. Depending on the location and scale of the project, they can be built with scaffolding, metal containers, or temporary fencing of some kind. The hoarding serves various purposes:
- Safety - Hoarding around a construction site keeps the public safe from the construction site and the construction team safe from traffic. Whether it's a standard fence around a small condo complex or full covering over the sidewalk on a downtown skyscraper, safety is the number one priority.
- Security - Construction hoarding keeps your job site secure. With tools and equipment on site, the hoarding will help keep unauthorized personnel from entering the job site.
- Branding & Advertising - The hoarding around a construction site becomes a natural billboard to communicate your message. Whether the project will be for lease, for sale, or a new public service, the custom hoarding presents an opportunity to integrate your construction signage creatively to make the project look more attractive and neat during construction.

Construction Signage Material Options
Fence Banners & Wraps
For construction sites with temporary fencing, it is common to print and attach mesh banners to the fence. The mesh is lightweight and allows the wind to pass through. One thing to be aware of: because the banners are mesh, there is less surface area for the ink to adhere to. Depending on the design, this can result in images that appear muted or not as vibrant as they might be when printed on a solid material. Consult with us at the beginning and we can run some test samples to ensure your design is represented in the best way possible.
On fencing that is secured into the ground, we can also print on vinyl banner material. This will eliminate any vibrancy issues you may encounter when using mesh. Banners are made to withstand heavy winds with stitched hems, grommets, and wind slits.
Rigid Substrates
Typically we use aluminum composite panel (ACP or Alupanel). We can print directly to a 4'x8' or 5'x10' sheet. These are lightweight but sturdy panels that will not rot or rust. Made with a solid rubber core sandwiched between aluminum on both faces, Alupanel will withstand extreme weather and easily still look great at the end of your construction project.
Another option is Crezon which is an exterior plywood that is specially treated. It is painted on one or both faces with a white enamel paint and the edges are sealed to ensure the longest possible life. It is also a solid material that we can print directly to but is heavier than Alupanel.
In both cases, Alupanel and Crezon can be used as part of the structure, eliminating the need for a plywood backer.
A Combination of Materials
In many cases, we end up using a combination of materials in order to create the most impact for your site in terms of advertising or communicating your message. Spruce up your next construction site signage using:
- Dimensional letters
- Adhesive vinyl
- Alupanel
- Crezon
- Vinyl & Mesh Banners

BELOW: As we said, each site is unique. Heavy duty vinyl banner worked well to cover the sides of two semi-trailers, delivering a pretty loud and clear message. They'll never need to ask for your phone number again!
